Cemetery History
Woodlawn is a national treasure of major historic importance. It was chartered in 1858, part of the "rural cemetery" concept first implemented in this country at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Boston, Massachusetts. It is a repository of the Chemung Valley's history and contains the stories of all those who have in ways large and small, known and unknown, contributed to the building of this wonderful place we call home.
